Is it free?
Yes. The gear locker, trip plans and Find Me safety codes, trail search, weather, Track Back, camp games and the Field Skills library all cost nothing. Compass Club is an optional $3.99/month membership that adds the AI planning tools, offline maps and the training log — it's there when you want it and easy to ignore when you don't.
Do I need an account?
Not to look around. You'll want one before you save gear or share a trip plan, because that's what syncs your things between the app and the website.
Does it really work without signal?
The parts that matter do. Downloaded maps, Track Back, the skills library, your saved checklists and your reminders all live on the phone. Anything that needs live data — weather, trail search — waits until you're back in range.
Is my trip plan public?
Only if you share it. A plan stays private until you hand someone the link or the Find Me code, and you can rotate that code any time to cut off the old one.
